Big Mountain
(Donner Party Trail)
Big Mountain is another
great, and little ridden singletrack only minutes from Salt Lake! The
trail starts out as a gentle climb through the bottom of the canyon, after about
2 miles it starts to get steep with some loose dirt and gravel. After
crossing 2 wooden bridges you are faced with 5 switchbacks, which are actually
a welcome relief after the unrelenting climb! The views from Big Mountain
are incredible! This ride can be combined, in different combinations,
with the Little
Emigration Canyon ride for an epic ride!
How to get there: Take I-80 East up Parleys Canyon. Take the East Canyon/Mountain Dell Recreation Area Exit. Follow the road around Little Dell Reservoir. About 2 miles after the road turns away from the reservoir, look for parking and a restroom on the right hand side of the road. The singletrack starts on the west side of the road and is signed "Mormon Pioneer Trail".
