Buckhorn Wash

Buckhorn Wash is located in the northeastern section of the San Rafael Swell. Just east of Huntington Utah. Buckhorn Wash is probably one of the easier mountain bike rides found in the San Rafael Swell. The road is maintained by the Emery County Road Department, and is suitable for passenger cars. But, that may be a good thing, for the scenery in Buckhorn Wash steals the show, and a more technical ride would not allow you to enjoy the scenery to it's fullest!! The are a couple of excellent Freemont Indian petroglyphs along the way that you must stop and take the very short hike over to! Buckhorn Wash ends at the Swinging Bridge over the San Rafael River. This is the same place the Wickiup ride, coming from the south, ends.

A must see side trip in the area is to the Wedge overlook. From the Wedge overlook you can see the Little Grand Canyon of the San Rafael Swell. It is more then worth the extra 10 minutes of drive time to see! I highly recommend it!

How to get there: From Huntington head south on SR-10, just before you reach the town of Castle Dale, you will see signs for Buckhorn Wash and the Wedge overlook. The road is on the east side. Follow the signs out to both Buckhorn Wash and the Wedge Overlook.
