Dog Lake

Dog Lake is a great introductory ride for new mountain bikers, or people new to the Wasatch Front. The trail is buff, with little to no technical sections. Just head up the trail out of the parking lot and enjoy the incredible singletrack through the pines!  1 1/2 miles up the trail you will come to a fork, stay to the right to go to Dog Lake, hang a left to go on up the Great Western Trail. This trail has excellent signs! 1 mile further up the trail you will cross the Little Water Trail, stay to the right. At the sign for Desolation Trail turn left (the trail straight ahead leads to the Mount Olympus Wilderness Area and bikes are not allowed) Dog Lake is just down the gravel path.

How to get there: From I-215 take Exit 3 (3900 South). Turn north on Wasatch Boulevard to 3800 South. Turn east at the Mill Creek Canyon sign. The road ends 9 miles up the canyon at the Big Water Trailhead.  Mill Creek Canyon is a FEE area. Be prepared to pay $ 2.25 per car ( in 1998). This is collected when leaving the canyon.

Upper Mill Creek Canyon is CLOSED to Mountain Biking on
ODD-NUMBERED calendar days!! YES, this means YOU!!!

This canyon has some of the best riding along the Wasatch Front. But if we
don't respect the rules, it will be closed to us.
