Lookout Peak

Lookout Peak could be considered an epic ride! The singletrack starts climbing right from the trailhead, and doesn't let up until after you crest Big Mountain. And don't let Big Mountain pass fool you into thinking your on top of Big Mountain! Head north across the road and start climbing again, only this time through steeper, narrower switchbacks! Once on top of Big Mountain, follow the jeep road north, look for the singletrack again (it's signed for Killyon Canyon and Affleck Park) right below Swallow Rocks. This is where the going gets tough, (if the climb to this point wasn't enough for you). At this point, if your feeling fatigued, are having mechanical difficulties or didn't bring a Topo map, I advise turning around and backtracking to the trailhead!! From here on, the trail is very unforgiving, hard to follow and in some places all most non-existent. Take a wrong turn and Search and Rescue will probably be looking for you by nightfall! Follow the trail(?) south/east to towards Lookout Peak. After Lookout Peak, it improves somewhat, and becomes a fast, furious descent down to Affleck Park.
How to get there: Take I-80 East up Parleys Canyon. Take the East Canyon/Mountain Dell Recreation Area Exit. Follow the road around Little Dell Reservoir. About 2 miles after the road turns away from the reservoir, look for parking and a restroom on the right hand side of the road. The singletrack starts on the west side of the road and is signed "Mormon Pioneer Trail".
