Stansbury Island

Stansbury Island
is a great year round single-track!! We've only encountered 1 other biker
(and that was at the trailhead!) We've also only met 2 or 3 hikers!
If it wasn't for the killer, and I mean KILLER
hill and switchbacks at the very first part of the ride, this would rate
as one of my favorite! Head south on a single-track and up a short
but steep draw. Ahead, to the right, you can see the switchbacks
I was referring to! Good-Luck, I think even a Mountain Goat would be challenged
on this one. After you get to the top of the switchbacks, 8 in all,
you come to a saddle and are faced with 4 terrible switchbacks down to
the single-track. But here's where the fun begins. An incredible
single-track awaits you. Just take care of the steep, exposed cliffs
on your right side! You are now following what once was the shoreline
of ancient Lake Bonneville.
How to get there:
Head west out of Salt Lake on either
I-80 or 2100 South. Take Exit 84, (Granstville's 2nd exit) There will
be signs for Stansbury Island once you exit the freeway. Stay on the main
dirt road about 6 miles. The trailhead is on the right and is marked with
a sign "STANSBURY ISLAND TRAIL".
